Role Description

The Construction General Laborer plays a vital role in supporting construction projects by performing a wide range of manual labor tasks. This position is responsible for maintaining site cleanliness, assisting skilled trades, handling material, and ensuring a safe and productive work environment. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work effectively as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Site Preparation & Cleanup: Clear construction sites of debris and hazards, set up and remove barricades, and maintain a clean work area.

  • Material Handling: Load, unload, and transport building materials, tools, and equipment as directed by supervisors.

  • Tool Operation: Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently under supervision.

  • Support Skilled Trades: Assist carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and other tradespeople with various tasks.

  • Concrete & Asphalt Work: Mix, pour, and spread concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials as needed.

  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety guidelines and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

  • Reporting: Promptly report unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment issues to supervisors.

  • Measurement & Marking: Perform basic measurements and mark reference points as instructed.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Experience: Previous experience in construction or manual labor is an asset but not required.

  • Physical Fitness: Ability to lift up to 60 lbs., stand, walk, bend, and work outdoors is all weather conditions.

  • Teamwork: Willingness to collaborate with others and follow instructions from supervisors.

  • Reliability: Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential for this role.

  • Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with team members and supervisors.

  • Licenses: Valid driver’s license may be required for certain positions.

Additional skills and qualifications that would be beneficial include:

  • OSHA certification or willingness to obtain certification

  • Ability to read blueprints

  • Experience operating construction machinery

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Outdoor work: Exposure to various weather conditions, dust, and noise on active construction sites.

  • Physical Activity: Frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, climbing, and kneeling.

  • Equipment Use: regular use of hand and power tools, ladders, and scaffolding.

  • Safety: Strict adherence to safety protocols and use of PPE at all times.

Shift and Schedule

  • 8 hour shift (can vary)

  • Overtime

  • Day shift

  • Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. 45 hours per week, with occasional extended morning & evening hrs. and weekends as needed and directed by Upper Management.

Work Location: Based on business need and job location; some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required

Reports To: Site management - Lead, Foreman, Superintendent and or Operation Manager
