Role Description

The Concrete Foreman supervises and coordinates daily crews in forming, pouring, and finishing concrete structures, ensuring projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to technical specifications. This role bridges the gap between field crews, superintendents, operations and office management, maintaining safety compliance and providing on-the-job training for workers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Crew Leadership: Direct, train, and supervise teams of 3-10 concrete laborers and finishers in daily tasks, assign work, monitor attendance, and resolve on-site conflicts.

  • Site Supervision: Oversee all aspects of concrete placement, including formwork construction, rebar installation, mixing, pouring, finishing, and curing.

  • Project Planning & Oversight: Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, surveys, and specifications to plan workflows, schedule pours, and ensure accurate layout and installation.

  • Material & Equipment Management: Ensure adequate inventory, coordinate material deliveries, maintain and repair equipment (saws, vibrators, mixers), and verify inventory loads against shipping papers.

  • Safety Compliance & Enforcement: Lead daily safety meetings, enforce OSHA, ADA and company safety regulations, ensure use of PPE, and resolve safety hazards immediately.

  • Quality Control: Inspect work for accuracy, proper finish, and adherence to structural requirements; direct corrective actions as needed.

  • Reporting: Maintain daily logs, reports, and timecards; track material usage; submit accurate records for payroll and project documentation.

  • Technical Execution: Operate heavy equipment (skid steers, excavators, laser levels), oversee formwork and shoring erection and dismantling, and ensure compliance with engineering designs.

  • Problem Solving: Resolve issues affecting project quality and completion, make sound judgments regarding weather and site conditions, and address work-related accidents.

  • Training & Recruitment: Recruit, train, and instruct field personnel; provide guidance and on-the-job training for workers.

  • Customer Satisfaction: Ensure quality, attention to detail, and thoroughness to meet client expectations and project requirements.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: Proven experience as a concrete finisher or foreman, typically 2-5+ years in a similar position/industry.

  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of concrete types, finishing techniques, formwork systems, and estimation software.

  • Mathematics: Basic arithmetic for measuring dimensions and calculating the volume of concrete required; ability to read simple blueprints or construction plans.

  • Safety Awareness: Strict adherence to OSHA standards and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Leadership: Strong communication, team management, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Physical Ability: Ability to perform manual labor outdoors in varied weather, regularly lift and carry up to 60 lbs., and demonstrate full range of motion.

  • Certifications: Valid driver’s license and Class B Commercial Driver’s License required; OSHA 10/30 Hour, ACI Finisher, Forklift, and Skid Steer Operator certifications preferred or to be obtained during employment.

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in construction management/science advantageous; certification through AIC or CMAA preferred.

  • Analytical & Problem-Solving: Strong organizational, time management, and analytical skills; ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, and plans.

  • Personal Qualities: Safety-oriented, honest, punctual, detail-oriented, flexible, and able to work well with others.

  • Reliability: Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential for this role.

  • Teamwork: Willingness to collaborate with others and follow instructions from supervisors.

  • Transportation: Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for traveling between job sites

Key Tools Used

  • Hand tools: Shovels, rakes, trowels, floats, edgers.

  • Power tools: Concrete saws, mixers, vibrators, jackhammers.

  • Equipment: Skid steers, wheelbarrows, surveying levels.

Work Environment

  • Outdoor Work: Exposure to various weather conditions, dust, and noise on active construction sites.

  • Physical Activity: Frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, climbing, kneeling. Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull up to 60 lbs. repeatedly or continuously.

  • Equipment Use: Regular use of hand and power tools, ladders and scaffolding.

  • Safety: Strict adherence to safety protocols and constant and proper use of use of PPE (hard hat, safety vest, glasses, and gloves) required; additional PPE proved as needed.

Shift and Schedule

  • 8 hour shift (can vary)

  • Overtime

  • Day shift

  • Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. 45 hours per week, with occasional extended morning & evening hrs. and weekends as needed and directed by Upper Management.
